Executive chairman Alexei Miller was among officials at the formal opening on Tuesday of Bovanenkovo – Gazprom’s first major greenfield gas development scheme for 10 years – that started trial commercial deliveries about three months ahead of schedule in June.

Initial annual gas output from the 4.9 trillion-cubic-metre field is set to reach 15 billion cubic metres and is expected to rise to 115 Bcm, and ultimately to 140 Bcm in the longer term, with exports to be funnelled through a new 2451-kilometre pipeline to Ukhta and Torzhok connecting the region with the European market.
