As of 2 January the field was producing 86,389 barrels per day, beating out its goal to achieve 85,000 bpd via a water-injection programme to enhance recovery.
The latest figures make Chichimene the country's third-highest producing asset, the largest producer of extra-heavy crude and one of the country's best short-term growth opportunities, Ecopetrol said in a statement.
The year 2014 was crucial at the field, which has nearly doubled production from 48,446 bpd last January.
