The company cut about 30% of its employees, primarily from its Calgary-based Canadian head office,after shelving plans to development of its proposed 44,000-barrel-per-day Corner thermal oil sands project in 2014.
Globally, Statoil has reduced its workforce by 17% to 19% since 2013.
"Over the last two to three years, Statoil has been addressing the industry's profitability challenges through several measures, both through reducing costs and improving efficiency" around the globe, including its Canadian assets, spokesman Knut Rostad said in an e-mail.
