During a media briefing in the Sakhalin capital of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk earlier this week, Sakhalin Energy project director David Grier said the company has only 40 kilometres of pipelines to complete.

The other 1560 kilometres have already been welded and put into the ground.

The Sakhalin 2 operator's goal is to develop the Lunskoye and Piltun-Astokhskoye fields near Sakhalin Island.

Last year, various Russian government agencies severely criticised Sakhalin Energy for damaging the environment and spoiling hundreds of small rivers and springs while the pipeline was being built and threatened to halt the project.
